This 2 Days / 1 Night Tour will take you to the most important historical places in Greece like Meteora Monasteries and Delphi Archaeological Site was considered to be the Center of the World in Ancient Greece. Moreover, it is one of the most important archeological digging sites in Europe. There you can admire one of the most famous monuments the Temple of Apollo in Delphi (that you can visit on your own). While there try to spot the well-known ancient engravings on the stone such as ‘Know Thyself’ and ‘Nothing in Excess’, used in Socrates’ philosophy works.

Admire the breathtaking views of the world’s significant Meteora Monasteries – one of the most famous man-made wonders of the Medieval World. Admire the clifftop Byzantine Monasteries built all the way back in the 14th century by the monks that still operate nowadays! Take a peek inside, meet and talk to the monks, and discover priceless artifacts and wall paintings.

What to Expect – Itinerary:

Day 1: Delphi – Meteora
Morning departure from Athens City on our way to Delphi Archaeological Site which is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for having had a phenomenal influence in the Ancient world. On our way to Delphi Archaeological Site, along the main highway, we pass by Thieves the Kingdom of Oedipus, driving with our Professional Guide.

Passing through the picturesque Arachova Village we will arrive at the Delphi Archaeological Site, “the Navel of the Earth” where we will have the opportunity to admire all the renowned ruins of the “Omphalos” (Navel) of the Ancient world. You will feel the mystery in the Temple of Apollo in Delphi (that you can visit on your own), where Pythia delivered her prophecies while seated on her tripod.

In the afternoon we drive through Central Greece crossing the Thessalian plain, to Kalambaka, a small town built at the foot of the majestic grey rocks and crowded by the Meteora Monasteries. Overnight in Kalambaka.

Day 2: Meteora – Athens City
Leave in the morning for nearby Meteora Monasteries to enjoy a tour and a visit to two different Meteora Monasteries* built on top of rock towers and providing fantastic views over the plain.

Return to Athens City in the afternoon, passing by the heroic monument of Leonidas King of Sparta in Thermopylae. Return back to your hotel in Athens City, end of the 2-Day Tour to Delphi and Meteora.

Meteora and Delphos

As a personal opinion, do not book any 1 day tour to Meteora. It is to far away, and you will only visit the monasteries for 1 hour or so. This 2 Days, not only spend more time in the Monasteries, but it will also take you to Delphos. Very good choice!

2-Day Tour: Not what we were expected

My friend and I booked this tour based off all the reviews. However, there were multiple times when we did not know what was going on. The views and sites were unique and interesting, but we didn’t feel it was all worth it. When looking on google maps for the distance of Delphi and Meteora, it appeared to be a max of 4 hours on the bus at one time. We were on the bus for many more hours though - the first ride was 3 and a half hours and the second day drive back to Athens took about 7 hours. We did not find out what hotel we would be staying until about an hour before we arrived at the hotel. All of us were split between 2 hotels - a 3-star and a 4-star hotel. We had the 3-star hotel and experienced problems there as well such as having to move rooms 3 times. The tour guides we had, though, were kind and knowledgeable. But overall, I we felt like we lost a good chunk of our time doing this tour when we could have spent those 2 days not sitting on a bus...
