Visit Mycenae, Nauplion City, Epidaurus Ancient Theater, Ancient Olympia, Delphi, Meteora Monasteries, Thessaloniki, Macedonia, Edessa, Vergina, Pella and the Archaeological Park of Dion.

This journey takes you through thousands of years of Greek history, from the prehistoric and Classical periods to Roman, Byzantine and more recent times. Along the way, you will visit some of the country’s most important archaeological sites, historic cities and landscapes.

Explore the Mycenae Archaeological Site and the Epidaurus Ancient Theater, then stop in Nauplion City, the first capital of modern Greece. Continue to Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the ancient Olympic Games, before visiting the UNESCO-listed Delphi Archaeological Site and the spectacular Meteora Monasteries.

The journey then continues north to Thessaloniki and historical Macedonia. See the Waterfalls of Edessa, Aristotle’s School near Naoussa and Vergina, ancient Aigai, the royal city of the Macedonian kings and closely connected with Philip II and Alexander the Great. The final part of the tour includes Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia and birthplace of Alexander the Great, as well as the Archaeological Park of Dion at the foot of Mount Olympus.

🗺️ What to Expect – Itinerary

🏛️ Day 1: Corinth Canal – Epidaurus – Nauplion City – Mycenae – Olympia

Leave Athens City by the coastal road and make a short stop at the Corinth Canal, one of the most impressive engineering achievements in Greece, connecting the Corinthian Gulf with the Saronic Gulf. Continue to the Epidaurus Ancient Theater, one of the best-preserved theaters of ancient Greece and famous for its remarkable acoustics.

The next stop is Nauplion City, one of the most beautiful towns in Greece and the first capital of modern Greece. After a short stop, continue to the Mycenae Archaeological Site, one of the most important centers of the Mycenaean civilization. Enter through the famous Lion’s Gate and visit the site and the impressive Tomb of Agamemnon.

After the visit, depart for Olympia through the Central Peloponnese, passing through Tripoli and Megalopolis. Arrive in Olympia, the cradle of the ancient Olympic Games.

🏅 Day 2: Ancient Olympia – Rio-Antirio Bridge – Nafpaktos – Delphi

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, visit the Ancient Olympia Archaeological Site, one of the most celebrated sanctuaries of the ancient Greek world and the birthplace of the Olympic Games. Walk through the Sanctuary of Olympian Zeus, see the Ancient Stadium where athletes competed during antiquity and visit the Archaeological Museum of Olympia, which houses important sculptures and discoveries from the sanctuary.
You will also see the area connected with the lighting of the Olympic Flame for the modern Olympic Games, a tradition linking ancient Olympia with the Games of today. Afterwards, continue through the plains of Ilia and Achaia and cross the impressive Rio-Antirio Bridge over the Corinthian Gulf.
Pass by the picturesque town of Nafpaktos, historically known as Lepanto, and continue through Itea before arriving in Delphi.

🔮 Day 3: Delphi Archaeological Site – Museum of Delphi – Kalambaka

Breakfast at the hotel. Start the day with a visit to the Delphi Archaeological Site, one of the most important religious centers of the ancient Greek world and home to the legendary Oracle of Delphi. Built on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, Delphi was considered by the ancient Greeks to be the center of the world.
Walk along the Sacred Way and discover monuments and treasuries dedicated by ancient Greek city-states. Among the highlights are the Treasury of the Athenians and the Temple of Apollo, where the Pythia, the priestess of Apollo, delivered the famous prophecies of the Oracle. Higher on the slope stands the ancient theater, offering impressive views over the sanctuary and the surrounding mountain landscape.
Continue with a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Delphi, one of the most important archaeological museums in Greece. Its collection includes the famous bronze Charioteer of Delphi, the Sphinx of Naxos, statues, votive offerings and architectural sculptures from the temples and treasuries of ancient Delphi.

Together, the archaeological site and museum reveal the religious, political and artistic importance Delphi held throughout the ancient Greek world. After the visit, depart for Kalambaka, a small town situated at the foot of the extraordinary Meteora rock formations rising dramatically from the plain of Thessaly.

⛰️ Day 4: Meteora Monasteries – Valley of Tempi – Mount Olympus – Thessaloniki

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, visit the Meteora Monasteries, one of the most extraordinary religious and natural landscapes in Greece. The centuries-old monasteries are perched on enormous rock pillars that appear almost suspended in mid-air.
Inside the monasteries, admire beautiful examples of Byzantine art, religious icons and frescoes while enjoying spectacular views over the surrounding landscape. Leaving Kalambaka, travel through the impressive plain of Thessaly and the Valley of Tempi.
Along the route, admire Mount Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece and, according to Greek mythology, the legendary home of the Twelve Olympian Gods. Continue north and arrive in Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city and one of the country’s most vibrant historical and cultural centers.

🏙️ Day 5: Thessaloniki City

Breakfast at the hotel. The day begins with a tour of Thessaloniki, a city that during the Byzantine Empire was considered the “co-reigning” city, second only to Constantinople in population and prestige.
Discover some of the city’s most important historical landmarks, including the White Tower, the Roman Forum, the Ottoman Market, St. Demetrius Church and the Byzantine Walls. A short walking tour also takes you to the remains of the Palace of Galerius and the Arch of Galerius, two important monuments from Thessaloniki’s Roman past.
Continue to the famous Rotunda, an impressive Roman monument that was later transformed into a Christian church and still preserves important Early Christian mosaics. After the sightseeing tour, the rest of the day is free to enjoy Thessaloniki at your own pace, walk along the waterfront or explore the lively city center.

👑 Day 6: Macedonia – Edessa – Naoussa – Vergina – Veria

Breakfast at the hotel. Depart in the morning for a full-day journey through historical Macedonia. The first stop is picturesque Edessa, famous for its impressive waterfalls, one of the best-known natural landmarks in northern Greece.
Continue to Naoussa and Aristotle’s School, a site of exceptional beauty and historical importance. It was here that the great philosopher Aristotle taught Alexander the Great and other young Macedonian nobles about philosophy, morals, politics and the sciences.
Next, travel to Vergina, ancient Aigai, the royal city of the Macedonian kings and closely connected with Philip II and Alexander the Great. Visit the Museum of the Royal Tombs of Aigai, built within the Great Tumulus that covers the royal Macedonian tombs. Among its greatest treasures are the remarkable finds from the tomb of King Philip II, father of Alexander the Great.
The discovery of the royal tombs at Vergina is considered one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. A short drive then brings you to Veria, the Biblical Beroea, where you will visit Saint Paul’s Bema and walk through the old Jewish Quarter and the colorful market area.

Return to Thessaloniki.

🏺 Day 7: Pella – Archaeological Park of Dion – Thermopylae – Athens

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, drive to Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia and birthplace of Alexander the Great. Visit the archaeological site and see the impressive floor mosaics that once decorated luxurious 4th-century B.C. villas, followed by the Archaeological Museum of Pella, where important discoveries from the ancient Macedonian capital are displayed.
Continue to the Archaeological Park of Dion, the sacred city of the ancient Macedonians, located at the foot of Mount Olympus. Dion was an important religious center where the Macedonian kings honored Zeus and the Olympian Gods. Explore the remains of sanctuaries, public buildings and other monuments that reveal the importance of the city in ancient Macedonia.
After the visit, begin the journey south toward Athens, traveling through Thessaly and Lamia. Stop at Thermopylae to see the Monument of Leonidas, dedicated to the Spartan king and the famous Battle of Thermopylae.

Continue through Thebes and arrive in Athens City late in the afternoon.
