The Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion was built in 44 B.C., and many of its original Doric Columns are still standing. One of the columns has a graffito left by none other than Lord Byron in the early 1800s. Drive by the idyllic beaches of the Saronic Gulf – Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, and Varkiza areas as well and take a pick at people’s lives outside of Athens City…

What to Expect – Itinerary

During this Afternoon Tour at Cape Sounion, we will have a wonderful drive along the scenic coastal road of the Athens Riviera which offers a splendid view of the Saronic Gulf.

Passing through the most elegant summer resorts (Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, Varkiza) with wonderful sandy or pebbled beaches on one side and luxurious hotels like Cape Sounion and Grand Resort Lagonisi on the other, we will arrive at Temple of Poseidon in Cape Sounion.

Our Professional Guide will present to you the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion perched on a rocky promontory getting out into the open sea – 197 feet overlooking the Aegean Sea.

This is the most breathtaking panoramic view in the world, extending all the way to Kea Island and the Peloponnese (Argolis area) on a clear day. The Temple of Poseidon was built in the 5th century B.C., and many of its original Doric columns are still standing.

During the tour, we don’t see the sunset.
